Divine Journey 2 is a 200+ hour modpack. That's not a typo. With 1,600+ quests, 19 dimensions, and over 5,000 custom recipes, this is the pack people play for months and still haven't finished.
It's built for players who already know modded Minecraft — the "expert mode" label is real. You'll craft items through multi-step chains that span entire mod systems, progressing through magic, tech, and everything in between until you literally find the meaning of life. Or the modpack's version of it, anyway.
DJ2 packs 223 mods into Minecraft 1.12.2 and runs on Forge. We host an active DJ2 server here on Apollo Network — but first, let's get the pack installed.
DJ2 isn't as heavy as some modern 1.20.1 packs, but the 223 mods and heavy recipe scripting hit harder than you'd expect for a 1.12.2 pack. Give it the RAM it wants or you'll feel it.
ATLauncher is what we recommend — it's open-source, lightweight, and doesn't try to sell you anything while you're just trying to install a modpack.
Step 1: Download ATLauncher
Grab it from atlauncher.com for your OS. Install it and log in with your Minecraft account under the Accounts tab.
Step 2: Find Divine Journey 2
Click the Packs tab on the right side, then select CurseForge at the top. Search "Divine Journey 2" — and make sure you grab DJ2, not the original Divine Journey. They're completely different packs.
Step 3: Install the pack
Click New Instance on the DJ2 listing. ATLauncher pulls down Forge 1.12.2 and all 223 mods for you. If any mods have restricted distribution, the launcher opens download links — save them to your Downloads folder and ATLauncher picks them up automatically.
Step 4: Allocate more RAM
DJ2's custom recipes and heavy scripting eat more memory than you'd expect for a 1.12.2 pack. Don't skip this step:
Don't go higher than 12GB — Java's garbage collection can actually cause worse performance with too much allocated memory.
Step 5: Launch and wait
Head to the Instances tab, find Divine Journey 2, and hit Play. The first launch is slow — DJ2 has to register thousands of custom recipes on startup. Let it run. You'll know it's ready when you hit the main menu.
Expert packs like DJ2 are honestly better with a group. Splitting up tasks — one person grinding resources while another tackles a quest chain — turns a 200-hour grind into something way more manageable and a lot more fun.
Our DJ2 server comes with custom server-side content, QoL improvements, mod patches, fixes, and performance optimizations — plus a solid community. We're the featured server in the pack, so you should see us right in the multiplayer menu. If not, just add dj2.apollonetwork.org to your server list manually and connect. Check the Apollo Store for ranks and cosmetics too.
ATLauncher is what we recommend, but these all work fine.
Step 1: Download the CurseForge app
Head to curseforge.com and grab the desktop app. Install it and sign in.
Step 2: Find Divine Journey 2
Open CurseForge, select Minecraft, click "Browse Modpacks," and search for "Divine Journey 2."
Step 3: Install
Click Install. CurseForge downloads Forge 1.12.2 and all 223 mods automatically. The pack is around 400MB, so give it a minute or two.
Step 4: Allocate more RAM
Click the three dots on the DJ2 profile, open "Profile Options," uncheck "Use System Memory Settings," and drag the slider to at least 6144 MB (6GB). 8GB is the sweet spot if your system can handle it.
Step 5: Launch
Hit Play. First load takes a while — that's normal. Don't close it.
Prism Launcher supports CurseForge modpacks natively. Create a new instance, search for Divine Journey 2 in the CurseForge tab, and download it. Set your RAM allocation to 6-8GB in the instance settings. A solid choice if you like having full control over your instances.
If you prefer the vanilla Minecraft launcher, you can set DJ2 up yourself. It takes a few more steps, but it works.
%appdata%\.minecraft (Windows) or ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft (Mac).divine-journey-2 and extract the zip contents into it.-Xmx2G to -Xmx6G.DJ2 is not a "figure it out as you go" pack. The quest book is your lifeline — open it the second you load in and follow the progression. The pack is designed with a specific path in mind, and skipping ahead usually just means you'll hit a wall.
The pack is actively maintained — version 2.23.4 dropped in June 2026, so the devs are still polishing and adding content.
